On December 18, 2015, the 93th CCNU Forum was held at the first floor of Yifu conference center in CCNU. Organizer was graduate school with co-organizers involving the college of sociology. Professor Shen Yuan, deputy chair of the department of Sociology in Tsinghua university, was invited as the lecturer and delivered the speech of “Dazhalan—the construction of old community”. The executive vice dean of the college of sociology professor Jiang Lihua and Professor Fu Ping and other professors attended this lecture. Some students from the college of sociology and others from different colleges and universities showed up as well.

 After introducing current communities in Beijing, Professor Shen pointed out the prevalence of community decay. Hence, he conducted the community building activities starting from the community Dazhalan.

 In the early stage of the project, Professor Shen introduced the preparation of the project involving building a team, hosting exhibitions, giving speeches, conducting surveys and collecting data, which all were important for the latter stages. In the middle of the project, Professor Shen showed the three platforms for social organizations in local communities, foothold courtyards building and the creation of traditional culture industries respectively. Listeners all learned from the innovative and brilliant ideas for the community construction and highly valued it. One point was mentioned that it would be time-consuming to go through the entire project. Professor Shen advised that once the project started, the most crucial thing was to get ready to spend lots of time on it and overcome the potential difficulties, trying the best to satisfy the citizens.

 After this, Professor Shen answered the questions from students with great patience in the following Q&A session. He pointed that we were supposed to build the community based on the local background considering the particularity of community construction and be aware that the whole process needs long-term hard work.

 The humorous and excellent speech made a deep impression on every participant and all the listeners learned a lot.
