The Conference on Precise Poverty Alleviation and Social Evaluation with the Perspective of Social Differentiation was Held by the School of Sociology at CCNU

The Conference on Precise Poverty Alleviation and Social Evaluation with the Perspective of Social Differentiation was held on December 13th at Central China Normal University, Prof. Ma Ming (Secretary of the CPC Committee of CCNU), Huang Chengwei (Deputy Director of International Poverty Reduction Center in China), Prof. Lei Hong (Chair of Hubei Sociological Association), Prof. Darrell Irwin (Dean of School of Sociology of CCNU), Prof. Lu Hanwen from School of Sociology, attended the conference together with experts from provincial poverty alleviation offices in Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi and Chongqing, as well as professors and scholars from different famous universities in China.

 

This conference was jointly organized by International Poverty Reduction Center in China, Hubei Sociological Association, and CCNU, and was held by the School of Sociology of CCNU. The conference had 5 sessions, and lasted from 9 am to 6 pm on December 13th. The first session was keynote speeches. Deputy Director Huang Chengwei began the first session with a presentation entitled “The Poverty-Alleviation Situation and Precise Poverty Alleviation Strategy during the 13th Five Year Period”. Liu Changyi, Professor and Deputy Director from Hubei Poverty Alleviation Office, made a presentation on “Key Tasks and Policy Innovation for the Poverty Alleviation Development in Hubei Province”. Prof. Shi Guoqing from Hohai University’s topic was “Social Evaluation of Poverty Alleviation Migration”, while Prof. Lu Yilong from Renmin University made a presentation on “Water Resources Related Poverty and the Choice of Water Management Poverty Alleviation Strategy”. Prof. Lei Hong from Huazhong University of Science and Technology acted as the moderator for this session.

 

The second session was moderated by Prof. Lu Hanwen, under the topic of “Migration, Culture and Precise Poverty Alleviation”. Prof. He Degui from North West Agriculture and Forestry University, Prof. Feng Mingfang from Shaanxi University of Technology, and Prof. Cai Zhihai from Central China Normal University, made separate presentations in this session. The third session began at 2pm after lunch break. Huang Chengwei moderated this session, with the topic of “Provincial Level Precise Poverty Alleviation Planning and Institutional Innovation”. Wang Bin from Hubei Poverty Alleviation Office, Zhong Yonghong from Hunan Poverty Alleviation Office, Qin Yanxue from Guangxi Poverty Alleviation Office, and Xiong Liang from Chongqing Poverty Alleviation Office presented in this session. Irene Bain, Social Development Specialist at Asian Development Bank Office in China, provided comments for this session.

 

The fourth session’s topic was “Transformation of Agriculture, Social Welfare and Poverty Reduction”. Prof. Wan Jianghong from Huazhong Agriculture University, Prof. Le Zhang from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Prof. Lan Hongxing from Sichuan Agricultural University, Prof. Yang Shengyong and Prof. Gu Yonghong from CCNU, attended the presentation in this session, while Prof. Cai Zhihai served as the moderator. The fifth and last session was moderated by Prof. Jiang Lihua, and the topic for this session was “Precise Identification, Evaluation, and Supervision”. Prof. Lu Hanwen from CCNU, Prof. Yang Xiuli from Northeast Agricultural University, Prof. Jiang Tao from Baoji University of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Qi Di from Hohai University, and Assistant Research Wen Bingcun from CPC School of Chongqing presented their speeches in this session. The conference came to a fruitful end after the summary speech delivered by Deputy Director Huang Jiwei.    

 

Further carrying out precise poverty alleviation and lift 70 million people out of poverty will be a priority in the 13th five-year national economy and social development plan, and relevant academic and policy studies are urgently needed in the next few years. The speakers of this conference discussed the issues of precise poverty alleviation and social evaluation from a variety of perspectives, be it sociology, economics, management, or anthropology. These discussions helped to find an answer for establishing a stable and efficient poverty alleviation mechanism with Chinese characteristics.
