（News from Zheng Haotian）Gu Donghui, Professor of Social Development and Public Policy from Fudan University lectured “Professional thoughts regarding social work” in 301, Building 9, CCNU. Prof. Gu, doctoral supervisor, Party committee secretary of Social Development and Public Policy, Fudan University, mainly engages researching and teaching evaluation of social services and social administration, professionalization of social work, publishing more than 50 academic papers and reports in "Sociological studies", "China Social Work Research" and other publications, newspapers and academic conferences, completing longitudinal and transverse studies more than 20 articles.
Zheng Guanghuai, Professor of Social Work And Social Policy, Nanjing University; vice Dean of Sociology School, Professor Wan Rende, executive vice Dean of Sociology School, Professor Jiang Lihua, social workers from Wuhan Boya Social Work Organization and Sociology School students attended the lecture. Professor Gu began with several intellectual topics that seemed weird, but problem-solving ideas tell us, ideas determine. In social work practice, being goal-oriented, generating innovative ideas; thinking through surface to essence, grasping facts; focusing on technique and localization.
Professor Gu talked that social work is professional service and management to assist the person in environment recovering and developing social function. Social work organizations and social workers utilize expertise, follow professional ethics, serve individuals, families, organizations, etc., achieving self-reliance and promote "environment" balance. Professor also stressed to regain social taste of social work, so as to return to the original concept, practice with balance of person-environment, research to boost overall and educate comprehensively.
Social work possesses diverse functions, not only acting positive manifest function and latent function, such as to relieve the dilemma and enhance capacity, but also playing an active part in politics, economy, culture and other aspects. Great wisdom contains in the operation process of social work; social workers also need to learn many skills.
In the end, Professor Gu encouraged students to establish professional self-confidence, occupational self-confidence and discipline self-confidence. Faculty and students yearned for more, actively communicating professional issues, gathering patient reply and guidance from Professor Gu.
