INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MIGRATION, INEQUALITY AND JUSTICE IN A GLOBAL, URBAN ENVIRONMENT: CHINESE AND U.S. PERSPECTIVES WAS SUCCESSFULLY HELD

The International Conference on Migration, Inequality and Justice in a Global, Urban Environment: Chinese and U.S. Perspectives jointly sponsored by Wayne State University and Central China Normal University was successfully held in Detroit from October 20 to 22, 2016.


Prof. Wayne M. Raskind, Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Science of Wayne State University, Prof. Jeffrey Kentor, Head of Department of Sociology of Wayne State University, Prof. Jiang Shanhe, Head of Department of Criminal Justice of Wayne State University, Prof. Irwin, Dean of School of Sociology of CCNU, Prof. Liu Chengbin, Vice Dean of School of Sociology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, attended the conference together with over 40 US and Chinese scholars and professionals in sociology, criminal justices and related areas.  



 

During the conference, the CCNU delegation partnered with the Wayne State University leaders and international office to further expand international collaborative education between our two institutions.Other issues such as poverty alleviation, the role of the state in social services and informatization were discussed with the goal of sharing opportunities to further collaborate within urban settings such as Wuhan and Detroit.  Tours of the Wayne State campus, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the neighborhood transformation underway near campus were fit into the busy conference schedule.

CCNU delegation also visited the Department of Sociology at University of Chicago after the conference, and their Department Head Prof. Andrew Abbott hosted the delegation with warm welcome.

CCNU delegation also visited Department of Sociology at University of Illinois Chicago, and discussed issues such as joint research and collaboration in student training withSociology Department Chair Maria Krysan and Sociology Professor Richard Barrett.
