School of Sociology 2016 research supervisor meeting

     On September 24th, school of sociology 2016 research supervisor meeting was held successfully in room 6301. Our dean of the school of sociology Darrell Irwin, executive vice-dean Jiang Lihua, vice-dean Wan Rende, a part of research supervisors in our school of sociology and out-of-school research supervisors engaged by our school of sociology attended the meeting, which hosted by Professor Wan Rende. At the meeting, the leaders of school of sociology emphasized the importance of tutorial system for postgraduates' development and put forward the requirements of class of 2016 postgraduates' school life and expressed great expectations. The 2016 postgraduates chose their tutor at the meeting, and they took a group photo together after the meeting.

About 10 o 'clock in the morning, the meeting began.  Firstly, our dean of the school of sociology Darrell Irwin made a speech of welcome to the leathers, teacher and students, and emphasized it is dual tutor system inside and outside the school nowadays, hoping students much communicate with teacher both inside and outside the class and have a clear goal so that graduate successfully.  Then, our executive vice-dean Jiang Lihua thanked tutors in the busy to come to attend the meeting, putting forward the thought that "how to study in teacher under the guidance of tutor", and in the stage of graduate student must avoid "never contact tutor" and "completely rely on tutor". Professor Jiang Lihua hopes the students in the graduate student stage should do three things: First, autonomous learning,  no matter how good the tutor can’t replace the autonomous study; Second, self-learning, make full use of all resources to learn; Third, creative learning, can't depend on teachers, have own ideas.  

 

   After the speech, the representative of tutors outside school Xu Zhenji, a deputy inspector of the Justice Department of Hubei Province, made a speech.  He briefly introduced the direction of research and work areas, and encouraged the students to focus on community correction.  He mentioned that the tutors outside our school should use a reasonable way to get on with students, provides the first-hand research materials for the students and help students solve difficulties in field research.  

   Next, the tutors inside and outside of school began to introduce themselves. First by the Hubei Provincial Department of Justice, the Provincial Disabled Persons Federation, Hubei Jinwei Law Firm, Wuhan Boya Social Work Service Center and Hubei Jingchu Social Work Service Center and other organs and institutions of social work outside the school tutors to introduce themselves.  They introduced clearly their own practice and theoretical research experience, hoping that through the combination of practice and theory to strengthen the students of social work to learn professional knowledge and understanding.  Out school of sociology and social work professional tutors also introduced themselves.  They focused on their own direction ofresearchand academic issues they took on, put forward their own request, and hope the students choose the right tutors according to their preferences ofresearch.After the introduction of all the instructors, the students had a choice of tutors.    

 

At the end of the meeting, all the teachers and students who presented at the meeting took a group photo in front of our school Teaching Building No.6.

This meeting aimed at making the newly enrolled 2016 postgraduates in our school have a clear understanding and acquaintance of our tutors.  Tutors choose to take a double-selection nature so students can fill the two intentions for a tutor according to their abilities and interested research direction according to their own ability and interest in the research direction and mentor provided two choices.
