A delegation consisting of 13 advanced social work students led by Prof. Kim Min Seop from Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited the School of Sociology in the afternoon of December 28. Dean Darrell Irwin, Prof. Wan Rende, Prof. Yang Shengyong, Deputy Party Secretary Xue Pingjun, Ms. Wang Ling from Wuhan Boya Social Work Service Center, and Dr. Yu Zhihong from Wuhan University, attended the meeting with the CUHK delegation together with other social work faculty and students from School of Sociology, CCNU.  

Prof. Darrell Irwin greeted the CUHK delegation with an opening speech introducing the School of Sociology’s basic information, and expressed the school’s strong interest in recruiting high-caliber talents with a Ph.D. degree in social work. Vice Dean and Associate Professor Wan Rende introduced the faculty and research directions of Social Work Department at the School of Sociology, and the general picture of social work education and profession in China. Prof. Kim Min Seop talked briefly about the general situation of social work department at CUHK, and introduced the delegation’s members. Ms. Wang Ling gave a presentation introducing the history and current situations of Wuhan Boya Social Work Service Center, which is based on the School of Sociology at CCNU.              
 

After the introductory speeches, the students and professors from both universities began exchanging questions between each other. They discussed questions such as “how many social work students choose social work as their profession after graduation from CUHK”, “What’s the salary level and social status of social workers in Hong Kong”, and also questions about social work organizations and placements both in Hong Kong and Wuhan.

Both parties learned a lot from each other from this meeting. After taking the group photo, many of the students from CUHK exchanged contact information with CCNU students before they left.
