Darrell Irwin is Professor and Dean of the School of Sociology at Central China Normal University and also serves as the Director of the Chinese Australian Social Work Research Center.
Dr. Irwin now plays a critical role in working towards internationalization of Central China Normal University, a leader in higher education in China. Dr. Irwin draws on new perspectives including a great appreciation of the diversity of cultures and his scholarship has reflected this global perspective. His own research explores comparative sociology, criminology and studies on globalization.
Dr. Irwin’s book, Case Studies of the Use of Drug Testing in Corporations: Deviance in Large Organizations, San Francisco: Mellen Research University Press, 1991, was one of the first published research studies on drug testing and its societal impact. He has also published in The Justice Professional; The Journal of Drug Issues; International Criminal Justice Review; The National Strategy Forum Review, The Journal of Crime and Justice and the International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice, and has presented crime research at the 11th United Nations Congress on Criminal Justice and Crime Prevention. The paper he wrote together with Cecil L. Willis, Success or sorrow: the paradoxical view of crime control campaigns in China, was translated in Chinese.
