In May 2015, CCNU signed an Admission Agreement with University of Southampton, which allowsstudents who have successfully completed year one of Masters study in the School of Sociology at CCNU’s or who have successfully completed their undergraduate study in the School of Sociology with an average mark of over 80% may, subject to the eligibility criteria below, apply to the UoS MSc in Sociology, Social Policy, Sociology and Social Policy, and International Social Policy.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
1. Satisfactory completion of one year of Masters study (all modules passed) in Sociology or Social Work in the School of Sociology at CCNU (1+1+1) OR satisfactory completion of undergraduate study in the School of Sociology with an average GPA of 80% or more. IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6 on each component or IELTS 6 and successfully pass 6-week English pre-sessional course provided by UoS;
2. CCNU Recommendation letter.
In addition any student participating in the Programme should:
3. have sufficient funds for the full period of study in CCNU and UOS;
4. propose an appropriate programme of study at UOS; and
5. show the aptitude, motivation and maturity to thrive in the environment at UOS.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
The following must be submitted to UOS prior to commencement on the Programme:
1. a completed UOS application form;
2. the student’s curriculum vitae;
3. a certificate of English proficiency;
4. a letter of recommendation from the School of Sociology;.
5. transcript of academic record of programme at CCNU ;
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
1. Applicants must have IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 on each component.
OR
2. Applicants must have IELTS 6.0 and successfully complete the 6 week pre-sessional in English for Academic Purpose course at UOS. Students must be advised that in this case acceptance on the MSc in Global Health programme is conditional on successful completion of this course.
OBLIGATIONS OF STUDENTS ON THE PROGRAMME
Students on the Programme at UOS are responsible for
1. applying for and arranging accommodation at UOS;
2. making travel arrangements to and from the United Kingdom and within the United Kingdom;
3. satisfying the immigration requirements for entry to the United Kingdom;
4. registering with the diplomatic mission of their home country upon arrival in the United Kingdom;
5. providing the appropriate authority at UOS with their postal and other addresses, upon enrolment at UOS and notifying any changes.
TUITION FEES
1. Students admitted to the Programme under this Agreement, having been introduced by CCNU, shall be responsible for payment of all fees including tuition fees to CCNU for each year of study while the student is registered at CCNU and to UOS for each year of study while the student is registered at UOS.
2. Tuition fees payable to UOS shall be at the rate for overseas students from time to time in force, which shall be notified to CCNU annually, less a discount of 15%.
3. UOS will determine the timing and method of payment of tuition fees and will advise students accordingly.
4. Additional expenses may be incurred by students enrolled on the Programme in respect of non-academic or non-obligatory facilities, services and functions provided by UOS which expenses shall be borne by students enrolled on the Programme.
5. Students enrolled at UOS are solely responsible for the expenses of accompanying spouses and/or dependants.
